Christmas Eve is one of the most important days on the Christian calendar, and one of the most exciting days of the year for the church. Thousands of people will come through our doors on December 24, some who come to worship as a regular part of their week and some who are coming to church for the first time that year. It’s an opportunity to welcome everyone, to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, and to be Light and Life for the City. This year First Pres will host nine worship services throughout the day, and each will be an opportunity for countless volunteers to shine their light for those coming to worship.
We will begin the day with a Family service at 10 a.m. Next, we’ll host Candlelight Worship Services in the Sanctuary at noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m., and 7 p.m., with services in the Worship Center at 4 and 5:30 p.m. Finally, we’ll end the day with a Celtic Christmas Service at 10:45 p.m. in the Sanctuary.
In order to host the 5,000 or more guests we expect, we need volunteers to be part of our team. There is room for everyone to be a part of welcoming worshipers on Christmas Eve. Below you’ll find several volunteer position descriptions, and a link that will allow you to register as a volunteer. A couple of important things to note:
Thank you for volunteering! We couldn’t do it without you!
Host—This is a key part of welcoming folks, getting them to the proper position and providing needed information. Hosts will be strategically located in the Plaza, near elevators, on the Bridge, by the Sanctuary, and near the Vendor Door to assist with wayfinding. You are part of the front line hospitality for everyone attending services. Hosts are asked to serve at least one full service.
Ushers—Be a part of the team helping worship flow smoothly. You’ll assist with greeting and seating guests at either the Sanctuary, Worship Center or Sheldon Jackson Room. You’ll assist in the Candlelighting process and with offering. Ushers are asked to serve at least one full service.
Parking Ministry—The Parking Ministry is literally the first piece of our hospitality team, meeting those arriving in the parking lot, at cross walks and as they arrive for worship. You’ll assist in helping folks find parking, get across the street and find their way to our main entrance for worship on Weber Street. This is an OUTSIDE position.
Food Ministry—This is a behind-the-scenes position, but a vital part of the Christmas Eve experiences for guests and volunteers. You’ll assist with guest refreshments and the meal served to volunteers.
Nursery Volunteers—Please come join us in the nursery for Christmas Eve. You will get the opportunity to love on our little ones by rocking and interacting with babies, or playing, singing songs and feeding the children. With our older kiddos you will get to play, read and share the love and miracle of Jesus’ birth through story, crafts and song. Our teachers will be responsible for providing the curriculum and you get the fun of joining in. Volunteers are asked to serve at least one full service.
