Rendering of the New Worship Center
We are excited to announce that we’re moving forward with the creation of our new Worship Center. Construction began on Monday, January 9, 2017.
The new Worship Center will hold up to 500 people and can accommodate our current worshipping communities as well as provide for growth. This will be a sacred space made for Worship. This project will include a new Welcome Center and reception area in the Plaza.
Rendering of the Welcome Center
Join us on Sunday, March 26 as we open the Worship Center and begin our new Sunday Morning Schedule. Be on the lookout for more updates in the next few weeks.
We invite you to help make this Worship Center a reality. If you’d like to give to this project, you can write a check with “Worship Center” in the memo line, or look for the “Worship Center” designation when you give online. If you’d like to talk about making a contribution to this project, please contact Alison Murray, Executive Director.
How will I get to worship on Sunday?
The work on the Fellowship Plaza has progressed to the point that it needs to remain closed to the public until the project is complete, including on Sundays. Beginning Sunday, January 29, the Weber Street entrance will be closed. Those who need a handicapped entrance will still be able to enter through the vendor doors and access the elevators, and all the regular Sanctuary doors will be open on Sunday. In addition, the door in Hansen Hall near the Library is open on Sundays. There will be signs in place to direct you. A Children’s Check-In Station will be set up near the elevators by the Library where the stairs to the plaza are located. Additional Check-In stations will be available on the third floor.
How will I enter the church during the week?
Beginning on January 9, the Weber Street doors will be closed. The public will enter through our temporary main entrance on Bijou Street by the First Pres Sanctuary. Our main receptionist will be in the Narthex and will be available to greet and direct everyone during renovation.
What happens to the Fellowship Hall Service?
During renovation we’ll continue to hold a contemporary service at 9:45 a.m. The service will meet in the Aspen Room in the Weber Street Center from Sunday, January 15, until the Worship Center opens on March 26.
What about Embracing Jesus?
Our famous Jesus sculpture, Embracing Jesus, was removed as part of the construction efforts. We are working on establishing a new, permanent home that will not only be visible to our Congregation, but our city as well. Stay tuned for updates.
What about GTW Dinners?
We will be having dinner each week as a part of GTW, which began on Wednesday, January 11. The weekly dinner will be held in the First Pres Gym, located on the third floor. Dinner will begin at 4:45 p.m. each Wednesday.
What about Preschool Drop Off and Pick Up?
During construction, drop off and pick up for the preschool will continue as normal. Construction crews will keep the Fire Lane in the South Parking Lot clear for morning drop off, beginning at 8 a.m., and for pick up around noon. Those that walk their children in will need to use the new main entrance located near the Sanctuary on Bijou Street.
What about Children’s Ministries?
We will continue to schedule our volunteers and staff to provide for adequate travel time for parents to check-in kids and get to your community group or worship service. The Nursery is available 15 minutes prior to each service. Both Creation Station (potty trained 3-pre-K) and the Connection (Elementary K-4) Sunday schools are scheduled for drop off to begin at 9:35 a.m. Please plan to pick up your children between 10:45 and 11 a.m. We will have an additional check-in station in the Plaza in the coming weeks to help facilitate and speed up the drop off process.
What about Student Ministries?
With the exciting new changes happening in the Worship Center there will be some shifting over at the Weber Street Center as well. Starting on January 15, the Route 56 and I-78 groups will combine into one large group and all meet in the Spruce room in the Weber Street Center. Starting on January 22 (no program on January 15 due to Winter Camp) High School Ministry will meet in the Cedar Room and have programming as normal. All times will remain the same, with Student Ministries meeting at 9:45 a.m. If you have any Student Ministries questions about the shift, contact Elizabeth Roth.
