Gentle - Founded on Joy

Gentle - Founded on Joy

Nov 25, 2018

Passage: Philippians 4:4-9

Preacher: John Goodale

Series: Gentle

Category: Theology

Detail:

Rejoicing fills our tank to overflow with gentleness; anxiety can easily drain it.

This week's sermon

It isn’t easy to maintain a gentle posture in a world that wants to be combative and hardened. Being gentle means being exposed to attack. It means being presumed weak when you are actually strong. It means allowing others to win or have the last word when you are right and your word is better! It means practicing and growing in humility. Where do we get the strength for this kind of virtue? Paul says our gentleness is known by all when we are confident that the Lord is near, when we rejoice in the presence and the promises of God. Joy can fill your tank and keep you gentle even when it’s hard.

About This Series: Gentle

Of the nine fruits of the Spirit in Galatians 5, gentleness is the one we most often overlook. To be gentle is to be kind and loving, full of grace. When we stand firm as Christians and defend the faith, we are taught to do it gently and with respect. Someone who truly attends to growing in gentleness will stand out in this world. Gentleness will reflect the light of Jesus.
