Gentle - The Civil Opposition

Gentle - The Civil Opposition

Nov 18, 2018

Passage: James 3:13-18

Preacher: Tim McConnell

Series: Gentle

Category: Theology

We can disagree without destroying one another.

This week's sermon

“Humility” in James 3:13 is the word for “gentleness.” Deeds done in gentleness arise from the wisdom from above. There is a "wisdom" of this world that tries to win the argument and dominate the opponent. There is a gentle wisdom from above that can share the truth without making an enemy. Our culture deeply needs a return to civility in politics, academics, the church and in so many other places. We can operate with a gentleness grounded in the wisdom from above and demonstrate civility even with those with whom we disagree vehemently.

About This Series: Gentle

Of the nine fruits of the Spirit in Galatians 5, gentleness is the one we most often overlook. To be gentle is to be kind and loving, full of grace. When we stand firm as Christians and defend the faith, we are taught to do it gently and with respect. Someone who truly attends to growing in gentleness will stand out in this world. Gentleness will reflect the light of Jesus.
