The Battle

The Battle

Aug 12, 2018

Passage: Ephesians 6:10-24

Preacher: Tim McConnell

Series: Me to We: A Study in Ephesians

Category: Discipleship, Epistle

We are too often trying to win spiritual battles in earthly ways when we should be winning earthly battles in spiritual ways.

This week's sermon

We are trying to win heavenly battles in earthly ways; we should be winning earthly battles in heavenly places (Alistair Begg). The real battle is in the spiritual realm where forces of evil oppose the ways of God and do everything in their power to pull us into confusion and damnation. Their only power is deception. The armor for our battle is all offensive armor, all worn on the front. We are too often playing defense when offense is called for (Batterson). Take the battle to the dark forces with truth, righteousness, readiness grounded in the Gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Pray in all occasions. The battle will be won or lost by prayer. “Me” has no one to pray to and no one to pray with. “We” are connected to God in Christ, and gather for prayer together with one another and with Him.

About This Series: From Me to We: A Study in Ephesians

Is life all about Me? A Me lifestyle is about the isolated individual—my ideas, my agenda, my concerns alone. From this vantage point, life is about making Me the best I can be. But faith in Jesus Christ draws us into We, where there is a relationship with God and others. We means setting our opinions aside and submitting in faith to Jesus Christ. We means being part of a family—a community of faith, united across racial and social lines. Journey with us from Me to We as we study the book of Ephesians this summer.
